Malwarebytes Anti-Malware

This is another excellent free anti malware program. Add it to your security programs along with AVG8 Free, AdAware 8 Anniversary Edition, and SUPERanti Spyware.

You can get them all from the club CD or Website.

Some Features: * Easy to set-up and run * No auto update or auto-scan. You do them manually. * Very fast scans. Quick scan about 5 minutes and full about 45. * This program has recently saved several local computers from a number of malware programs.

Note: If you are running AVG8 you already have a real time (running when your computer is on) anti virus and anti spy ware program. You should run these three anti-malware programs on a regular basis one at a time with AVG8 turned off to avoid conflicts. To turn off AVG8, right click on the icon near the clock. Then click on "Exit". Then click "Yes".

A member mentioned that even if you can't update Malwarebytes Anti-Malware on an infected computer, you run it. It should find some malware. If the program stops you re-start it. You update it when you are able, and run it several times until your computer is free of malware.

Questions:

  1. Why does the program quarantine?
      2. Answer:
    • It is quarantined so that the malware is available to upload to the program developers for analysis. It also may be an important file that can be fixed and put back. I leave mine in quarantine for a while until I am sure all my programs are working, then I try and delete them, even though they are safe in quarantine, because another anti-malware program may find them in quarantine, and call them new malware.
  2. Why can't just one anti-malware program do the job?
      3. Answer:
    • No single anti-spy-ware will detect and remove all threats. Hackers have purposely made malware that avoids detection by some anti-malware programs.
  3. Will these anti-malware programs work with ISP and Web based email anti-virus and anti-spyware programs?
      4. Answer:
    • They should work but you may have to try to find out. I know of no known problems.
  4. Do you recommend AVAST anti-virus program?
      5. Answer:
    • Yes it is a good ant-virus program, available from our website and club CD. It has no anti-malware program with it like AVG8, so AdAware 8 Anniversary Edition should be installed as well with AVAST.
  5. Should I remove Spybot?
      6. Answer:
    • There are many anti-malware programs available now that are easy to install and run. The suggestion is to try them.
  6. A member mentioned that Trend is a program that takes a long time to run.
      7. Answer:
    • It maybe doing a full system scan. Malwarebytes Anti-Malware takes about 45 minutes to do a full scan. Scan timing is dependant on the amount of data on your hard drive.
