Speed-Up Your Computer

Disable Windows Visual Styles

By default, Windows has included some fancy shading, shadows and other styles to enhance the experience. These enhancements take system resources and if you have a slow computer you should remove them.

  1. Click, "Start", Right click "My Computer", click "Properties".
  2. Click "Advanced", and under "Performance" click "Settings".
  3. Click "Adjust for best performance".
  4. Click "Apply", "OK" and "OK".

Now you have freed up some system resources.

To Remove Temporary Files

It takes time for a computer to sort through temporary files; they should be removed occasionally.

Use CCleaner. You can get it from the Club CD or from the Website - CCleaner.
To see how to install CCleaner - CCleaner - Presentation

Start CCleaner. Look over the "Cleaner" screen. I use the defaults and remove the Cookies. If you use Cookies to get into websites or are not sure uncheck "Cookies". They will not cause you any grief and they are small in size.

Click on "Analyze" if you wish to see what is going to be deleted, and click on "Run Cleaner" to delete. When it is finished click the X on the upper right of your screen.
