Members were asked to let the Technical Support Team know if they have any programs they want researched or presented. You can make a request on the website Forum.
There were some programs under research : Cheque Book Ease, Household Register Plus, Safe House Explorer, VOIP, Skype
Are members interested in Skype? Many indicated they were interested. Member cautioned that Skype users must keep their info up-to-date so that 911 knows their new real location.
- Member uses Google storage for invoices, letters etc. but only uses 2% of his allowed storage space. Did they increase their storage or have they dumped some old stuff?
- Google storage is currently 7GB and do periodically increase it.
- Member is unable to boot from Acronis disk to copy his hard drive. Why?
- The panel suggested he change the Bios to boot from the CD first and hard drive second. Watch the screen when booting up. The key to press is shown at the bottom of the screen; sometimes hitting F2, F6 or Delete key, depending on the computer.
- Member is using Google Chrome and has lost their bookmarks. How to they fix this?
- At the top right click on "Other Bookmarks". Some are found on the Bookmark Toolbar to the left of this.
- Member has a new laptop. Do they need a wireless router?
- No, you should have WiFi built in.
Wireless internet access is available from "hotspots". Look for a hot spot by clicking on the icon in the task bar that has two screens with two circles around it.
Look for hotspots around many public areas e.g. library parking lots, opposite Radio Shack in Quinte Mall. Sympatico and Bell.net users can get free access at Starbucks. Most of Toronto is equipped for wireless access. - Member e-mailed an illustration from a newspaper but it was not received. What is the best way to send it?
- If you embed it in the e-mail the file may be too large and it will not be received. If the file is too large as an attachment it may not be received either. Put it in as a .JPEG attachment, and keep the size under 500KB otherwise it takes a very long time to download.
- An easy way is send the person the link so that he can go directly to the site.
In Internet Explorer press "Alt" key, click "File" -" Send" - "Send Link By Email". Now your email program will have the internet address of the website; no need to copy the text. - Member wants to take information from a webpage and put it into a Word document. How to they do this?
- Highlight the text by clicking and holding the left side of your mouse
and dragging it over the text. Now right click your mouse and choose "Copy ".
Next, open up MS Word and right click again and now choose "Paste".
There is a little clipboard after the text. Right click on it and choose "Keep Text Only".
You have removed any coding and can adjust the font as you wish. Now you have a Word document you can attach to an email.
