  1. Is Panda Cloud good if you have dial-up?
    • Yes. It may slow your system down when you first go on the net. It is good for old computers - try it. Charlie uses Panda Cloud and Avast. Uninstall AVG with Revo Uninstaller before installing Panda Cloud.

  2. Our computer won't download or install any HP updates. The problem started when we installed a new printer and then a new internet key. What can we do?
    • Tom said if the printer is working, don't worry about updates. You can go to MS Config. to turn off HP printer and see if the printer still works if you don't use the HP program.

  3. A member has two Gmail accounts and a Sympatico Email account. "A couple of weeks ago I installed Windows Live. Then I began to get error messages that others were trying to get into the Gmail account and then kicking me out "for security reasons". When I open Firefox it goes to my Google desk top as usual, then opens three copies of Gmail, one of which is a folder within Gmail that I store received mail in. I close the surplus tabs and then it is OK but a bit of a nuisance. I must have checked a box or something somewhere, probably in a "fetch mail" type application, but I can't see where it is. Any suggestions?
    • You may have installed Windows Live Mail incorrectly. Charlie only goes to Live Mail and he leaves his Gmail account alone. Charlie reminded members he did a presentation on Windows Live Mail from a Gmail account. It might be helpful to go over that information in "Show Time" on our website.

  4. A member owns a Hewlett Packard PC with SP3 recently installed with Microsoft Office Small Business Edition 2003. The problem is the size of the fonts. They are too small - how to fix this?
    • The default is 8 pt. In Outlook, open contact list. Ensure navigation pane is showing (if it's not: View, Navigation Pane) Click on 'Customize Current View' on the Navigation Pane. Click on 'Other Settings'. Click on 'Row Font', and change to suit.

  5. A member has a modem which works with the Contacts to phone a client automatically. It works only on a number which is long distance. How to fix this?
    • The modem is inside the computer. The modem is set with long distance settings. Tom will check it out.

  6. Member's neighbour has AVG8 installed on his computer and has been receiving warning notices that it is about to expire so needs to be updated. He tried to download from the net but will be charged for it. I attempted to install AVG9 from the club's stick but encountered the following forced window. "Some potentially incompatible software is installed on your computer, in order to continue the installation, please remove the following application - Avira anti virus personal edition classic". The window provides a box to click to go to uninstall, however the Avira application is not listed there. I downloaded Revo Uninstall on his computer thinking that it might be listed with that but to no avail. I cannot find a reference to Avira anywhere in his computer. I did find a similar application in his C drive but when I tried to get info the hidden file listings came up and a warning saying that hidden files should not be tampered with as it could affect the operation of the computer." Any suggestions?
    • Use Revo Uninstaller on AVG8. If Revo does not see AntiVir to remove it, you can install AntiVir Free. It is a good AV program. Download from   Avira Antivir

Members discussed free tax program Studio Tax at  Studio Tax. It has been available for a couple of years. Janice suggested it might not be "free" much longer.
