CCleaner Presentation March 13, 2007

CCleaner allows Windows to run faster, more efficiently and gives you more hard disk space.
  • It is a system cleaner that removes unused and temporary files from your system and is a fully featured registry cleaner.
  • It has secure file erasing
  • Start-up program delete
  • Program Uninstaller
  • Cookie management
  • It is small, fast and free

Click on CCleaner under the "Utilities" section and follow instructions.

  • Save the file.
  • Find the file and click on it to start the install.
  • Follow the instructions.
  • Select a language.
  • You are asked to stop all running programs.
  • Put your pointer over the icons found in the lower right of your screen.
  • Right click on AVG and click on Quit AVG Control Center.
  • Do the same for other programs especially other anti virus programs and firewalls.
  • Follow instructions but when you get to the page where there are checked boxes, you may wish to uncheck the offer to have a Yahoo tool bar installed.

When finished, go to your desktop and double click on the CCleaner shortcut icon.

  • Now you will see the Cleaner settings. They are in two parts. Windows and Applications.
  • I use the defaults. This removes all my cookies.
  • I use RoboForm to handle my passwords and do not need the cookies to help on a website. That is the safest way.
  • If you wish to keep all your cookies uncheck Cookies from Windows Internet Explorer and Applications Firefox/Mozilla.

    Next click on Analyze, at the bottom left. You will see all the temporary files that will be deleted after you click Run Cleaner. For now just click on Analyze.

    Now click on Options 1 and the Settings 2

    If you wish Secure Deletion, (writing over deleted files so they can’t be recovered), click on 3 Secure file deletion.

    If you wish to keep some cookies, click on Options and then Cookies 1.
    On the left side you will see the "Cookies to Delete".
    If you wish to keep some click on them 2
    Click on the arrow to move them to the right side.3

    Unless you are sure of what you are doing leave the Custom option alone.

    Click on Advanced.
    To save your settings click on the box beside "Save all settings to INI file".

    Now click on Cleaner at the upper left.
    Click on Run Cleaner at the lower right

    You have removed temporary files not needed by your computer.

    To Uninstall Programs you no long need.

    • Click on Tools, then Uninstall.
    • Click on a program you want to uninstall from your computer.
    • It should be highlighted.
    • Don’t click on Security Updates, Updates for Windows or Windows XP Hotfixes unless you know what you are doing.
    • When ready, click on Run Uninstaller.
    • This uninstaller does a better job than the one in Windows Control Panel.
    For Advanced Users: If you wish to remove some startup programs, click on Tools then Startup. Click on the startup program you want to not start up when you turn your computer on.

    Then click on Delete Entry.
    NOTE:You can always start the program by going to Start, All Programs etc. but to have the program automatically startup again you have to reinstall it or find on option in it, to do so.

    For Advanced Users: To use the Registry Cleaner click on Issues

    and uncheck Unused File Extensions. You may need them someday.
    Click on Scan for Issues.
    Then click on Fix selected issues.
    Answer Yes when asked Do you want to backup changes to the registry.
    Click on Save, noting the file name and where you are saving it.
    Next click on Fix All Selected Issues. Click OK.

    Congratulations!. You have just successfully cleaned your computer of a lot of unnecssary files. It should run faster and much more efficiently.
