Questions and Answers.

  1. What is P.O.P.?

      Answer:

    • Post Office Protocol.

  2. Do you need another email address before you start gmail?

      Answer:

    • You aren't required to provide an alternate email address, but Google strongly encourages you to. Once you've started using Gmail, They'll use your alternate email address to communicate with you under the following circumstances:
      1. To confirm your username after you create an account
      2. To communicate with you in the event that you can't log in to Gmail
      3. To help you if you've forgotten your password
      4. To notify you that you're about to run out of storage space
      5. To alert you to any unusual activity in your account

  3. Does the search function in gmail, also search the attachments?
    • Answer:
    • No. GMail does not search outside the email itself. The following is a quote from their Help on Searching:
    • You can use Gmail search the same way you'd use Google Search, by entering a word (or multiple words) that appears anywhere within the message you want to locate.
    • If you're looking for a message that contains the word shopping, simply type shopping in the search field and press Search Mail. Your results will be displayed with your search terms highlighted in yellow.
    • Gmail doesn't recognize special search characters like square brackets, parentheses, currency symbols, the ampersand, the pound sign, and asterisks.
    • It also doesn't recognize partial or similar matches, so a search for travel will find travel, but not travels, traveler, or travle.

  4. You have the choice of fonts on Outlook Express – can you do the same in gmail?

      Answer:
    • No! You are limited to Google's choice of the most used fonts on the internet:
    • GMail Fonts

  5. Using Outlook Express, I have received a new modem from sympatico and it keeps asking me for a password? The box next to ‘Remember my password’ is greyed out – how do I open that box so I may check it?
    • Answer:
    • If you still have your original Sympatico installation CD, then I would just re-install using that CD.
    • This will re-set your password, let you enter your current password, and probably give you the option to have the computer remember it.

  6. When you went over to gmail, did you send over all your contacts?
    • Answer:
    • Yes! But not all at once.
    • I used a "phasing in" method.
    • I moved my active one's over first and the rest later, after I was sure that I was going to be using GMail as my default email client.
