- Tom's Advice:
Never go away for the weekend and upon your return,
check your e-mail without first updating your virus protection.
E-mail saying it was an XP virus update - don't open it. It is a virus.
XP virus protection 2008-2009 is a fraud. Do not try to purchase.
If your computer is working - leave it alone.
- After Vista was installed on an original XP computer “OEM” installed anti spyware for XP.
Could not be removed completely even using the manufactures “Removal Tool”.
Answer:
- Possible solution – wipe hard drive clean and reinstall Vista.

In XP - is there a program to shut computer down after scanning?
Answer:
- Go into Google to check.
- Response from audience - (AVG has a shut off after scanning.)

Automatic updates for Windows unable to be installed.
Answer:
- Windows updates have ID numbers Google the ID + “unable to install”.
- Answer should take you to Microsoft site. Microsoft should have answer.
- Updates need to be install in proper sequence.

Re: E-mails - Can virus be transmitted by AOL E-mail?
Answer:
- Quite possibly, however AOL scanners should catch it.

Anyone know about a fax program that works on Vista?
Answer:
- There is Virtual Fax for business. Only has a fax number not an e-mail address.
- Win-Fax, don't know if it is Vista or XP compatible. Probably. But to be
sure go to google and enter fax +Vista .

There are Ads for laptops being wireless.
Answer:
- They can't work unless you have a “Receiver” in USB or one built in.
- Also, you must have an account with the ISP Provider, and be in the proper area.
(EG: Greater Toronto Area) (Brighton Library provides wireless service.)
- The local service of Xplornet is wireless.

Is it safe to download Windows XP Service Pack 3(SP3)?
Answer:
- Yes, unofficially. On new computers XP Windows will have SP3 already installed

There are Ads from Bell that seem to indicate wireless set up without computer
Answer:
- Yes that is available in the States.
- A Friend in Ajax who is 4.5 km. from a Bell substation,
has an Abox in his window which allows him to be wireless.
- Cogeco is presently updating their system, wireless or high speed usually follows.

A member has a Wi-Fi router in home - how to make it secure?
Answer:
- Programs have to be hard wired into computer.
- A wireless D-Link router, for example, will assign a password.

A members's Desktop folder opens up like a toolbar
Answer:
- Clicking the right mouse button on the folder will give you a lot of options
which might help.

A member has a file on the desktop which he can't erase or remove.
It says "Here's a picture of you guys in the sun.jpg
Answer:
- Tom has had an icon he couldn't remove.
- Check properties or go to Google and enter "cannot +remove +desktop +icon"

CCleaner - is it a good program?
Answer:
- Be careful it can clean out your fonts.

Is Pirate better than CCleaner?
Answer:
- Tom uses Easy Cleaner but finds that it is a dangerous program - to be used with caution.
- After it cleans two files remain "Web Client" is one.
- The files are part of XP and won't let you delete them.

A picture was sent to a member who can't open it in Corel.
- Has Word 2003 and uses a converter program from Microsoft.

Explorer 8 has been released in Beta form - Have you tried it?

- I haven't tried yet.
