Alt symbol codes - are numeric codes you need to type on num (number)
pad of your keyboard while holding Alt key in order to input text symbols. (Or
you can input characters present on your keyboard as well)
To input symbol codes from your
laptop keyboard enable Num Lock (FN+ScrLck on some
laptops) and hold Alt key. While holding type corresponding keyboard code on
num pad keys (Please, view Laptop alt
codes article).
For first part of alt keyboard symbols rules are simple. If you'll try to
input special characters with alt codes 01 - 0127 you'll get same as if you've
inputted alt key symbols #1-#127.
Though, special alt characters with codes 128 - 255 are language-specific: when
I try to make symbol with alt code 158 on my russian-language
Windows I get "Ю", meanwhile some people get
"₧".
If you'll try to type alt symbols by keyboard codes N > 256 (0256) you'll
get the same as the one with alt code N modulo 256. For example character with
alt code 0444=0256+0188 is "¼" and it's equal to the one with code
0188 "¼".
Notice: alt codes work only under OS Windows! You can stop trying to input text symbols using them if you are running Linux, Unix, etc. Be sure, there's nothing like Linux alt codes and
I recommend you just bookmark this page and copy-paste ones you like from here.
But MAC has some symbol codes, google that.
· Enable NUM LOCK.
· Hold Alt key.
· while holding type
Alt codes on Num Key Pad - number
pad on right side of keyboard.
· Release Alt key.
If it doesn't work when you input holding right Alt key - try left.
If something's wrong, or if you're a laptop user -
read article on how
to make symbols.
