Removing Startup Items

Applies to: Win XP Win 2000 Win Me Win 98 Win 95
MSConfig is a Windows program for making technical adjustments to Windows. It stands for Microsoft Configuration Program. Please use it with extreme caution. Ensure that you DO NOT remove startup programs that Windows requires to operate properly. When in doubt, don't.

Click on 'Start' on the bottom left of your screen and the following small window will pop up:

Enter in 'MSConfig' as you see in the window and click 'OK'.
The following window will popup:

Select the 'Startup' tab as indicated.

For each item you want removed when you start your computer, click on the small box on the left of the item and remove the check mark.

To re-instate an item, click on the empty box and a check mark will appear.

When you are finished with your options, click 'Apply' at the bottom of the window, then 'OK'.

The following window will appear:

Click 'Yes' if you want to see if your changes worked...
Click 'No' and the changes will take affect when you start up next time.
