If you are using Outlook Express and when your incoming mail is highlighted the message appears below,
it means your Email is opened and subject to a virus. It is convenient but could be a problem with a virus if
your Virus program is not up todate.
Here is how you change it so it doesn't open untill you double click the message
- Open 'Outlook Express'
- Go to 'View'
- Click 'Layout' and a 'Windows Layout Properties' display will appear
- Go to 'Preview Pane'
- Ensure that the small square box named 'Show preview Pane' has no check mark,if it does,
click on the box to make it disappear.

about the minutes etc., that you would like to keep. It should be your personal filing system
not the folders that Microsoft thinks that you should have.

How to save attachments
- Before you can save attachments you should know how and where you will save them.
Outlook Express likes to save nearly everything in "My Documents".
You can save them there if you like.
I think it is easier to save all attachments in a "Folder" called 'C:\&Attach'
then you will know where all your 'Attachments' are so if you want
to send them to someone, they are easy to find.
The '&' in front of a folder name forces the folder to the top in Windows Explorer.
- There are 2 ways to Save Attachments:
- 1. When the Email is first opened and has attachments, go to 'FILE' and
click 'Save Attachments'. A display will open.
Find the 'FOLDER' you want to save them in by using 'BROWSE'
at the bottom of the display and then click 'SAVE'.
They will now be saved and you can now read the Email.
- 2. When you receive an Email with 'Attachments' click the attachment.
It will ask if you want to 'OPEN' or 'SAVE'.
Click 'SAVE' and select your 'Folder' called 'C:\&Attach' as above...

How to send an attachment
- Click 'INSERT' on the top menu and click 'File Attachment'
Outlook Express will probably open the 'My Documents' folder.
If it does, find your file, click on it to highlight it,
and then click 'Attach'.
If you want to attach more than one file,
click on the first file to highlight it, then
HOLD DOWN the 'Ctrl' while clicking on the other files
you want to send with the e-mail, then click 'ATTACH'.
- If you saved your attachments in 'C:\&Attach',
Click 'INSERT' on the top menu and click 'File Attachment'
Click on 'Look In', Scroll until you find 'C:\&Attach'
Then click on 'ATTACH'.
This routine would apply for any file you want to attach,
not just the ones that you stored in 'C:\&Attach'
For example: a '.DOC' file from Microsoft Word or
a '.JPG' or 'GIF' graphic file.
In this case you would 'Look in' the folder where they are stored.

Saving all Attachments or only the ones wanted.
When you get a bunch of attachments in one E-Mail here's what do if you to save one or all.
Saving All:
- Click on "FILE"
- Click on "SAVE ATTACHMENTS"
- Check on the Folder you want to save them in and click on "SAVE".
NOTE: I make a FOLDER named "&Attach" on my C:\ Drive.
If you do this &Attach will be the first Folder on
your drive and easy to find. The '&' causes this.
Saving One or a Few:
- Click on "FILE"
- Click on "SAVE ATTACHMENTS"
NOTE: A Display box will appear and all files will be highlighted.
Click anywhere on the highlight and the highlight will disappear.
- Click the first attachment you want to save and it will highlight.
- Hold down the Ctrl (control) key and click on any other ones you want.
Only the attachments you want will now be highlighted.
- Click "SAVE".

RESIZING PHOTOS FOR E-MAILING
Preamble:
In a 3 megapixel picture it is 2048 pixels wide by 1536 pixels tall,
which would cover over 300% more than the average computer monitor will
show (assuming the monitor is set to 800x600). Another way of saying
this is that if you open a 3 megapixel image on the typical monitor
(no matter how big the monitor is), you will only see about 25% of it
at its full resolution, leaving the other part of the image off-screen.
Instead of sending an image this large, you'll want to "resize" that picture
down into a more manageable file, one that will be completely visible
on the screen (resolution) and one that will not take too long to send
across phone lines (file size).
The image editing software that came with your digital camera should
contain a resize function. When you resize an image, you simply
reduce the height and width of the image so that it is smaller.
This is very good for emailing or posting on web pages, but not
good for printing. Thus, you should have one set of full-resolution
shots for printing, and then only resize copies of the ones you need to email
or post on a web page. Also, make sure that when you resize an image,
you first make a copy of the original and resize the copy...be sure to
leave the original full-size image alone.
Most Photo Programs can resize pictures but here is how to do it
in MGI program using their "help" file:
- Click the large "Prepare" button on the Welcome Screen or the
"Prepare" button on the Navigation Bar located below the Menu Bar.
If you just loaded a photo into the program you will enter the
"Prepare" Mode automatically.
- On the Adjust Menu click Resize.
- Specify a new Width and/or Height for the photo. The ideal for
e-mail attachments is 600 X 400 pixels.
- Select the Keep Proportions check box if you wish to maintain the
ratio of width to height in the photo.
- Save your new photo size with a different name than the orginal so
that you don't overwrite it.
NOTE: If you resize a picture smaller, make sure it is a copy
or you will lose the original picture. You might want
to print it in larger format. A good idea is save yor photos
as a ".tif " file and change it to a ".jpg " for E-mail
NOTE: A lot of above information I got from this site:
DigiCamInfo
If you want to know more... especially about printing... click on it.
Its good stuff, Ed Holm.
