Text Copy and Paste Techniques

PREAMBLE:
When you copy text, regardless of the methods shown, you use a storage
area in computer memory called a: 'CLIPBOARD'. This area stores the text
until you shut your computer off. On older computers, the text is only
stored until you replace it with new stored text or you shut your computer
off and was limited to 32,896 characters at a time.
Using the Mouse:
- Click the left mouse button on the starting character
of the text to be copied and hold it down.
- Drag the mouse down the screen to the last character to be copied
in the text and let go of the left mouse button.
- Make sure the mouse pointer is inside the high-lighted text and
click the right mouse button.
- Select copy from the menu shown.
- The text is now in the Clipboard

- Make active a receiver for the text. ie. Use Wordpad, Notepad, etc.
- Place the mouse pointer to the spot to start receiving the copied text.
- Click the right mouse button.
- Select Paste from the menu shown.
- The selected text is now in its new location.
Using the Keyboard - Method A:
- Move the Screen Cursor to the starting character
of the text to be copied.
- Hold down the Shift key and use the arrow/PageUp/PageDown keys to
move the Screen Cursor to the last character to be copied and let go of the Shift key.
- Hold down the Ctrl key and press the C key
- The text is now in the Clipboard

- Make active a receiver for the text. ie. Wordpad, Notepad, etc.
- Move the Screen Cursor to the spot to start receiving the copied text.
- Hold down the Ctrl key and press the V key
- The selected text is now in its new location.
Using the Keyboard - Method B:
- Move the Screen Cursor to the starting character
of the text to be copied.
- Hold down the Shift key and use the arrow/PageUp/PageDown keys to
move the Screen Cursor to the last character to be copied.and let go of the Shift key.
- Hold down the Ctrl key and press the Insert key
- The text is now in the Clipboard

- Move the Screen Cursor to the spot to start receiving the copied text.
- Hold down the Shift key and press the Insert key
- The selected text is now in its new location.
